Impact of Race and Insurance on Door-to-Appendectomy Time among Pediatric Patients
Racial and ethnic disparities in the rate of appendiceal rupture have been widely reported among the pediatric population. The main reasons for this remain largely unknown given that previous explanations pointing to signs of poor health care access have recently been shown to account for only a small percentage of the difference in perforation rates between white and minority children. Because the risk of perforation increases with time, racial disparities in time delay from emergency department presentation to OR appendectomy may help account for the higher appendiceal perforation rates observed among minority children. This is the first study dedicated to analyzing racial differences in door-to-appendectomy time. Insurance status and language barriers were also considered as variables of interest.
Retrospective, observational study using admission and treatment data of 607 consecutive children less than or equal to 18 years of age with surgical confirmation of appendicitis. Patients were admitted from February 2, 2013 (start of electronic medical record use) to April 27, 2017.
A significant association was found between race and perforation rate (p0.05 for all). Door-to-appendectomy times were also not significantly longer for Medicaid/uninsured patients (613 minutes) compared to private insurance patients (597 minutes) (p=0.60), nor for patients with language barriers (545 minutes) compared to patients without (612 minutes) (p=0.23).
While there was a higher appendiceal perforation rate among minority children, it was not due to differences in door-to-appendectomy time. Insurance status and language barriers also did not lead to differential treatment among pediatric patients

Fall Protection Training: A Case Study Using Cbt for Latino Construction Workers
Latino construction workers are at an increased risk of worksite injuries and fatalities due to language, cultural barriers, and ineffective training. This case-study investigated computer-based video training (CBT) for scaffold safety. The CBT training was developed using a participatory approach involving direct input from Latino roofers and framers. This paper focuses on evaluation-improvement of training that combined workers’ ideas of a safe work environment with OSHA standards. Researchers investigated the appropriateness and effectiveness of a brief CBT presentation addressing fall protection and scaffold use among Latino roofers. The results indicated that Latino construction workers at a roofing company in Colorado gained knowledge (p-value \u3c0.05) and liked the use of a culturally appropriate educational video as a method of training. The positive reactions to the training intervention are encouraging and support information and communication technologies (ICTs) for training Latino construction workers with lessons learned for follow-up training and evaluation

Students\u27 use of personal technology in the classroom: analyzing the perceptions of the digital generation
Faculty frequently express concerns about students’ personal use of information
and communication technologies in today’s university classrooms. As a requirement
of a graduate research methodology course in a university in Ontario,
Canada, the authors conducted qualitative research to gain an in-depth understanding
of students’ perceptions of this issue. Their findings reveal students’
complex considerations about the acceptability of technology use. Their analysis
of the broader contexts of students’ use reveals that despite a technological revolution,
university teaching practices have remained largely the same, resulting in
‘cultural lag’ within the classroom. While faculty are technically ‘in charge’, students
wield power through course evaluations, surveillance technologies and
Internet postings. Neoliberalism and the corporatisation of the university have
engendered an ‘entrepreneurial student’ customer who sees education as a means
to a career. Understanding students’ perceptions and their technological, social
and political contexts offers insights into the tensions within today’s classrooms
A Framework for Objectively Determining Alternative Contracting Method Best Practices
Alternative Contracting Methods (ACM) usage has grown to the point where the industry has sufficient experience to provide a definitive set of best practices to both promote consistency in the nation’s procurement system and to leverage the lessons learned by early ACM adopters. The barrier to achieving this goal is that there is no uniform agreement on the definition of what constitutes a best practice. This paper proposes both an objective definition and a framework for identifying and analyzing ACM practices that have been found to be effective by peer-reviewed research to determine if a given practice deserves to be termed as best practice. The framework is based on the series of indexes that are used to rank candidate practices in order of their importance and their effectiveness. The 24 ACM practices evaluated were identified from 6 National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis reports on ACM topics. The paper finds that only 4 of the 24 candidates meet the objective criteria to be termed a best practice. These were 1) Formalizing and institutionalizing agency ACM procedures, 2) Use of 2-step best-value award procedures, 3) Appointing an agency ACM champion, and 4) Offering stipends for unsuccessful competitors
No
no, innovador.
concretamente, dos series actuales: Mr. Robot y The Leftovers. The structure of the audiovisual content is constantly changing . It’s common
that every time we meet new concepts about how to display the content, but also
see it in the way stories are told . This makes the world of narrative something
completely magical and innovative. This work makes a small study on the vast and
complex world of the turning points on the scripts in the television series in order to
clarify the extent possible, the resources that use, specifically, two current series :
